Summer Camps

Contents

General Information

Who: All students from Gadsden Independent School District (GISD), Hatch Valley Public Schools (HVPS), and Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) exiting grades 5-8 in May 2021.

What: Students may participate in up to two (2) camps during Summer 2021. However, campers may only participate in one (1) in-person camp per week, in accordance with the New Mexico COVID-Safe Practices for Day Youth Camps and Programs.

Maximum camp capacity is 10 students per in-person camp session and 20 students per virtual camp session.

All in-person camps will follow the New Mexico Red to Green Framework guidelines and the New Mexico COVID-Safe Practices for Day Youth Camps and Programs which may reduce the number of spaces available per in-person camp session depending on Doña Ana County’s status when the camp starts.

All campers, instructors, and staff are required to wear a face mask at all times during the camps (except while eating or drinking). Please see all our COVID-19 safety practices and protocols here.

Where: Camps will be offered in-person and virtually. Please see camp descriptions below for where each camp will meet.

In-person camps will take place on the NMSU Main Campus in Las Cruces, unless otherwise specified below. Details on drop-off and pick-up times and locations will be sent at least one (1) week before the camp starts.

Virtual camps will meet on Zoom for live camp sessions. The STEM Outreach Center will provide the materials needed for each camp. Details on camp logins and materials pick-ups will be sent at least one (1) week before the camp starts.

When: Camps run Monday–Friday in June and July 2021, please see camp descriptions below for exact dates and times.

Cost: All NMSU STEM Outreach Center summer camps are FREE. Our camps are funded by local and state grants that provide out-of-school time programs to K-12 students.

Transportation: Participants must provide their own transportation to and from STEM Outreach Center camps.

The only exception will be bussing from GISD and HVPS on select weeks. The STEM Outreach Center is working with GISD to provide bussing to camps during the week of July 12-16 and working with HVPS to provide bussing to camps during the week of June 21-25. Pick-up and drop-off locations and times to be determined. More information on bussing will be shared after camp placement.

Registration

There is one registration form for all camps. Please indicate your first-, second-, and third-choice camps on the form. We will do our best to place campers in their first-choice camps but cannot guarantee placement.

You will receive an email confirming that we have received your registration form once it is submitted. We will send an email confirming your camp placement within two weeks of receiving your completed registration form.

If you are not placed in your first-choice camp, you may choose to accept the placement in another camp or be placed on the waitlist for your first choice.

Camp details and required release forms will be sent at least one (1) week before each camp begins. All campers must have NMSU required safety release forms on file before the camp starts.
