STEM Outreach Center
Twenty instructors attended SEMAA Spaceport Professional Development to kick off the Spring 2018 semester. This Professional Development was presented by the STEM Outreach Program staff. Instructors ranged from 6th to 8th grade. Instructors in 6th grade learned that they will be teaching students about adobe structure building and the effects of earthquakes through a partnership that the STEM Outreach Center has formed with the Center for Bio-mediated & Bio-inspired Geotechnics (CBBG). Instructors in 7th and 8th grade learned how to make air-powered rockets and launchers and launched/retrieved their specimens with the visual help of glow in the dark sticks. The curriculum for SEMAA Spaceport includes engineering solutions to natural disasters, studying alternative forms of energy and exploring aeronautics.
