To provide professional development and support for K-12 educators to effectively implement standards-based educational strategies that promotes achievement, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and participation in Science for ALL students.
Focusing on public elementary, middle and high schools in New Mexico that primarily serve minorities and students underrepresented in the science fields, the goals of Scientifically Connected Communities (SC2) are to:
- Provide professional development for teachers that promote inquiry-based teaching strategies and increased scientific literacy for all students;
- Increase science content knowledge of K-12 teachers and collaboration with scientific experts;
- Provide classroom resources and materials so teachers can implement inquiry-based learning;
- Provide an organization to share best practices and a professional network is established.
