On Saturday January 14th the STEM Outreach Center held their Spring 2017 Professional Development. Over 200 teachers attended from Las Cruces Public Schools, Gadsden Independent School District and for the first time, Hatch Valley Municipal Schools. Dr. Susan Brown opened and welcomed the new and returning teachers. Following Dr. Brown, the Assistant Vice President at UTEP, Nate Robinson, spoke about how his work with graphic novels will be integrated into several of the COUNT after school sessions, as a pilot program. Mr. Robinson recently earned a $500K grant from NASA for the UTEP STEM Program.
After paperwork was covered, the teachers went to their respective classrooms for the Best Practice Session for each individual program. Lunch was provided and another Best Practice Session was held, focusing on the overall school sites. Returning teachers were then released and picked up new consumable supplies while new teachers attended professional development sessions for their individual programs. Once finished, all new teachers picked up new Educational Resource Kits and were finished for the day.
After school programs begin January 17th.
